My Conversation With Victoria
I was excited to finally talk to someone going through this process, and I really enjoyed my conversation with Victoria. This class, Foundations in Adult Education, is her fourth that she has taken on her way to achieve her PIDP. I discovered she works at an investment firm and has a background in HR.
We spoke about my two posts, first being the Trends in my Field. It’s nice for the beauty industry to be taking consumers more seriously and answering the call for more environmentally conscious products and packaging. When speaking about my second post about Trends in Adult Education, I gave her a play by play of how to host “Grab the Bird”. We both agreed that having fun while learning changed the experience, making it more joyful and positive, which increases your learning capability.
In both of her posts I was to review her focus was on AI. As someone who is just coming to understand the impact technology has on education and the world we live in (I feel like I’ve been living under a rock!!) I appreciated her take on the possible overall impacts being negative. I see technology as a tool, but worry the fear of the tool will negatively impact it’s use. Her sentiment was that AI will make people lazy. That will be true for some who use it, but overall, I believe that tools allow people to participate. For example, my son has dyslexia and uses tech to help him with reading when he’s in a subject that’s focus isn’t on reading. The tool allows him to keep up with his peers and not fall behind. In another example, my father-in-law is an artist and just told me a story of how he used AI as a tool to help conceptualize the was a skirt would flow for a painting he is creating. At the end of the day, I think it is important for the educating body to be aware and to create framework around the use of AI, but making sure to keep it as a tool to be used and benefited from.
